Does your Dad have heartburn? Did your first child have reflux? Did you?
If you were born into a 'heartburn' family, your babies risk of suffering with reflux or heartburn will be higher than average.

How can it be hereditary? perhaps one explanation lies with the activity of the L E S (lower oesophageal sphincter) which is the valve between the oesophagus and the stomach. it should close tight once food is swallowed. A loose L E S may flop open allowing acidic stomach fluids to flow back into the oesophagus. This causes heartburn in adults and reflux symptoms in an infant. A floppy L E S may run in families.
